About

Welcome to Musychology. The term stems from a combination of 'musicology' and 'psychology'. Musicology is the study of the history of music, its cultural and social influence, and the interpretation of music. Behavioral psychology has greatly evolved in the last 150 years and we are uncovering many ways to improve mental health, which we know greatly impacts our psychological health and vice-versa. In the vast realm of psychology, we are in the very early stages of discovering the health benefits of music beyond reducing anxiety and symptoms of depression (which are already enormous benefits on their own).

The objective is to (1) develop a greater understanding and appreciation for music in general, and to (2) explore behavioral, neurological, and physiological benefits of music. Utilizing university research, publications, and research, I aspire to attain and share knowledge on how music can aid health, cognitive health such as memory, attention and focus, energy, and happiness. Additionally, in recent years I've been developing my musicianship as a music producer and deejay (who isn't a DJ these days?) and a benefit has been a greater sense of appreciation for a medium that has been pivotal during the best and worst moment alike in my life.

I will be using this site to also share original music, mixes, as well as that I think showcases interesting facets of music, its evolution, and listening benefits. Happy reading and listening!

About Me
Hey, my name is Sabir. I'm a California native but have had the fortune of living, working, and concert going in a variety of U.S. cities and countries. My career has oscillated between management consulting for fortune 100 companies and launching mission based for profit and non-for-profits. I love most genres of music but electronic, hip-hop, and psychedelic and indie rock are my top. I hope to contribute to the advancement of how we enjoy and benefit from music. I also produce music and deejay under the moniker, Zaffron.
